I swore I would never be that person to move in the middle of the semester. With everything that goes on in the semester AND how awful moving is, why would anyone do that to themselves?! Good question. Maybe it's because they found a bigger (still small) apartment, for cheaper, in a cool location?
Well we did. With 4 midterms and an event in the moving week, we did. Now there are A LOT of quarks about the apartment that I didn't know about before we moved it but it all adds to the character that the house holds.
First of all, it's a house. Well, a three-plex. We live in the front apartment and love it. And when I say this house had "character", I mean character from the early 1900's character. This house was build in 1910! I mean, what things have gone on in this house before we lived here?! I don't even think the house had electricity when it was build because all of the electrical wiring is external (outside the walls). Never did I think it'd be so hard to have a single outlet in a bedroom. (that one little outlet is sure feeling special).
The house is heated by a boiler. When we first moved in, I thought someone was trying to break into our house every hour or so when it would turn on because it's LOUD. And it's not a consistent noise, it random clanking that sounds like someone is hitting a hammer on the pipes. To cope with our frustration of the noise (it especially likes to fire up at night), we proudly tell each other that, like the Malfoys and the Blacks, we have house elves. House elves that slave away in our basement, heating our house that was build before the Titanic.
When we first moved in there was one thing that really concerned me. There were half-inch gaps under our kitchen and front door that seemed to say, "Calling all spiders and bugs who need a home! No application required!" Our first night sleeping in our new place resulted in two bites (spider bites if you ask me), one on my neck and one on my upper thigh. I almost slept at my parent's house the next night, because my imagination told me that the spider who bit me was telling all his little friends to join in on the fun. Oh. no. Thank goodness our landlords are saints and fixed it right away.
I'll have you know that I really do like this house. We have a clawfoot bathtub that I want to keep forever, the storage space is unreal, and we have stained glass windows in the front room.
I would upload pictures of our place and invite you over but it isn't quite together yet. We don't even have furniture because we can't fit our couch through the front door (again, the house was built before the Panama Canal) so your wonderful imagination will have to do for now.

That was very entertaining reading material. I'm sorry about the spiders. :(
